Volunteers are needed throughout the Coachella Valley. The Social Justice Committee plans programs, and activities based on your ideas and input. The Committee provides monthly updates regarding various volunteer opportunities in the Coachella Valley. The amount of time you choose to commit is entirely up to you! Our monthly Social Justice bulletin publishes a list of current volunteer opportunities.
Here are a few of our volunteer opportunities
Read with me
The Read with Me mission is to bring volunteers to schools that serve disadvantaged students to help them develop to their maximum potential. Their primary effort is to provide English-speaking role models for children who need individual assistance in learning to become fluent in English. Contact:
readwithmevolunteers.com for information on how to enroll as a volunteer.
Hidden Harvest
Millions of pounds of produce are left in the fields for various reasons: blemishes, overproduction, and dwindling market price. Hidden Harvest also recovers many hundreds of thousands of pounds of produce each year from area packing houses. The fresh and nutritious produce reaches nearly 50,000 needy people throughout the Coachella Valley each month through client agencies and our programs. For information, Email Carl Nelson, Volunteer Coordinator at carlnelpd@aol.com. The program resumes in September.
Big brothers & big sisters
Being a Big Brother or Big Sister is one of the most enjoyable and fulfilling things you’ll ever do. You can shape a child’s future for the better by empowering them to achieve. The best part is, it’s a lot of fun. You and your Little Brother or Sister can share the kinds of activities you already like to do. Contact bbbs.org to get more information or to sign up to mentor a child.
Thank you for your anticipated enthusiasm and participation in making a difference in the lives of others and for yourselves by fulfilling the promise of Tikkun Olam. — Arnie, Ellie, and the Committee.
